Report: India Ranks Fourth Globally For VC Investments In Healthtech Sector Since 2016

According to the latest data from London & Partners and Dealroom.co, India has ranked fourth globally for healthtech investments by venture capitalists (VCs) since 2016. 

Taking the total investments by VCs in the healthtech space to $4.4 billion since 2016, the Indian healthtech sector has attracted $1.9 billion in funding from VCs in 2021 to date. The record funding in the Indian healthtech space till date in 2021 puts India just behind the USA, China and the UK. 

Healthtech startups in the USA attracted the most investors’ interest raising $31.9 billion in 2021 till date, followed by healthtech startups in China, which attracted $4.1 billion. Healthtech startups in the UK are not far behind and have attracted $3.8 billion in 2021 so far.

Growth Of Healthtech Sector In India

As per the report, UK and India are currently among the fastest-growing destinations for healthtech investments. Investments by VCs in the Healthtech sector in the UK have grown nine times since 2016 ($420 million in 2016), whereas in India, healthtech investments by VCs have surged ten times over the last five years ($190 million in 2016).

Speaking on the development, Hemin Bharucha, Country Director, India, London & Partners, said,

The report highlighted that London and Mumbai feature in the top 15 list of global hubs for healthtech VC investment, demonstrating the increasing opportunities for collaboration between the two regions.

In the past few months, several startups in the Indian healthtech space have raised funds. Bangalore-based diabetes care startup OneCare had raised ~$1 million in pre-seed funding round a few days back. Another Bengaluru-based healthtech startup Clinikk had raised $4 million in pre-series A round led by MassMutual Ventures.

Other notable investments in the healthtech space this year include MFineTwin Health, HealthPlixFitterflyBreathe Well-beingTruemeds, and HexaHealth.
