Kisankonnect, a Pune-based agritech startup, has made headlines by securing Rs 31 crore (~$ 3.7 million) in a pre-Series A funding round from climate-focused fund Green Frontier Capital and crop protection company Dhanuka Agritech Limited. VC Grid, which is a community-led investment platform, along with a few family offices, also participated in the funding round.

As per the startup, the freshly raised funds will be used to invest in climate-smart agriculture interventions with its 5,000 farmers and strengthen its fresh-produce supply chain technology. Further, the raised funds will be used to add new farm stores in Mumbai and Pune.

Founded by Vivek and Nidhi Nirmal in 2020, Kisankonnect is a Pune-based agritech startup that sources agricultural produce directly from its network of 5,000 farmers and delivers fresh vegetables and fruits through its in-house delivery channels.

Kisankonnect also has a line of agri-produce and hand-made preservative-free snacks under the brands Village Staples and Mom’s Kitchen. As per the Pune-based startup, it also works with farmers to encourage sustainable cultivation of crops free from pesticides and chemicals.

Speaking about the development, Vivek Nirmal, Co-founder and CEO of Kisankonnect, highlighted that they are pleased to partner with GFC and Dhanuka and other ESG Tech-focused investors in their journey of strengthening the community of farmers by implementing interventions for soil improvement, reduced usage of chemical fertilizers and pesticides, and improving farm productivity.

By leveraging a technology-enabled, temperature-controlled, and fully traceable supply chain, Kisankonnect believes that it helps the sorted and graded fresh produce of farmers to reach consumers in Mumbai and Pune in the shortest possible time. As per the startup, through this process, the waste has been significantly reduced, ensuring fair prices for both farmers and consumers, while it also helps reduce carbon emissions in the agri supply chain.

Commenting on the development, Sandiip Bhammer, Managing Partner and Founder of GFC, said,

“Kisankonnect is revolutionizing the field with its dedication to soil improvement, reduced chemical usage, and elevated farm productivity – values that align seamlessly with our mission to champion climate tech innovations.”
