Teacher Accreditation Platform CENTA Secures $1 Million Funding to Boost its Tech Capabilities

CENTA (Centre for Teacher Accreditation), a Bengaluru-based teacher accreditation platform, has raised $1 million (Rs 8.3 crore) in a funding round from several angel investors.

As per the startup, the freshly raised capital will enable it to improve the tech capabilities of its existing platform.

These angel investors include Prem Kumar (former HCL executive), Leo Puri (JP Morgan), Kabir Narang (B Capital Group), Bahram Vakil (AZB & Partners), and Govind Iyer (ex-Egon Zehnder International).

Founded by Ramya Venkataraman, CENTA is an end-to-end professional platform for teachers that certifies their competencies and supports upskilling works with employers on teaching careers.

As per the startup, it has been used by more than 1.1 million teachers across 131 countries.

Speaking about the platform, Ramya Venkataraman, Founder and Chief Executive of CENTA, highlighted that testing and training contribute almost 45% each currently while recruiting makes up the rest 10%, adding that in terms of growth, recruiting will become about 40% eventually.

Venkataraman, while highlighting teaching as a top-of-the-agenda item for everyone, continued that in this funding round, the platform aimed to include representation from a diverse spectrum of sectors.

She added,

“This funding represents a vote of confidence in our mission and underscores the power of teachers as both catalysts of social impact and engines of economic growth.”

Assessing and Certifying Teachers

The Bengaluru-based teacher accreditation platform works for teachers by assessing and certifying the competencies of teachers. It connects outstanding teachers to career opportunities, rewards, and recognition. Further, it supports their professional development journey through the MyCENTA platform.

CENTA’s “Teaching as a Service” (TaaS) initiative aims to provide on-demand teaching services to national and international educational institutions, in addition to supporting state and national governments.

Commenting on the development, Prem Kumar, former MD of HCL Infosystems, highlighted CENTA ‘s growth as the natural outcome of a well-thought-out strategy, catering to the unmet needs of the target audience.
