The Indian contracting and design industry has not been able to keep pace with this new India.

Still using archaic methods of design, development and work process, the Indian contracting and design industry is chaotic, inefficient, unorganized, and a redundant sector, with far below par contribution to the Indian economy. And to contribute more to the economy, the industry greatly requires to be equipped with modern technologies.

Only with modern technologies and better work process techniques, the sector will be able to reach the point where many developed nations are.

Today’s startup story is about an Indian startup that is working hard to improve this chaotic, inefficient, unorganized sector.

Started by a husband-wife duo in 2018, today’s startup story is about ReNEWate.

Startup Story: ReNEWate | Manage Your Contracting Business On Your Phone

ReNEWate Founder

Started by husband-wife duo Supratik Ghatak and Debashree Ghatak in 2018, ReNEWate claims to be India’s only platform for helping millions of renovation contractors, property improvement professionals and businesses manage their business digitally.

The startup uses AR and AI with native language support to bridge the skill gap and power a new digital age for property improvement professionals and contractors.

How ReNEWate Started?

Debashree Ghatak, being an architect and interior designer herself, was always aware of the challenges being faced by contractors working on her various sites. She spotted the issues faced by contractors in transacting digitally and managing their businesses, especially shortly after demonetization.

Talking about the issues that the contactors face, Debashree says,

“The community of contractors are very skilled in their hands-on work but still lag behind in using digital tools. We have always wanted to help them.”

So, to address the large untapped real estate improvement industry and help professionals digitize their businesses as well as improve cashflows, the husband-wife duo started ReNEWate in the year 2018.

USP Of ReNEWate

ReNEWate helps all property improvement professionals, including carpenters, civil contractors, painters, interior designers, electrical contractors and others to improve the way they sell, report and get paid with the help of the smart tools in the ReNEWate app.

The platform with its offerings helps contractors, designers and architects save time and money. They also get a wide range of benefits that the platform brings in terms of raw material pricing as well as offers.

Talking about the platform, Debashree says,

“ReNEWate is on a mission towards creating a shared economy for a better India, an aspirational India of millions of entrepreneurs in this industry. ReNEWate wants to be a feature-rich platform of choice that is used by every contractor and designer and thus empowers them to add the digital advantage to manage and scale their business faster.”

Present Situation of ReNEWate

Within just two years, ReNEWate has grown to a team of 20 members. The Pune-based startup claims to have more than 25,000 users across the web and mobile app.

ReNEWate has earlier received a grant from the Department of Science and Technology, Government of India and IIMCIP for being one of the top Smart 50 startups. The startup has also raised a pre-seed round of $272,000 (Rs 2 crore) from Better Capital.
