Toprankers, an edtech platform for careers beyond engineering and medical, has acquired career guidance platform ProBano in a cash-and-stock deal.

With this deal, Toprankers has marked its foray into the career discovery and guidance segment and looks to leverage ProBano’s expertise in designing its career discovery and experience platform, aiming to become a full-stack career platform.

Launched by Gaurav Goel, Karan Mehta and Harsh Gagrani in 2014, Toprankers is a digital counselling & preparation platform for careers beyond engineering & medicine.

It provides a platform for competitive exam aspirants opting for careers beyond engineering and medical field and offers best learning practices and end-to-end support to every student preparing for management, humanities, law, judiciary & design entrances.

Speaking on the development, Gaurav Goel, Co-founder of Toprankers, said,

“Leveraging ProBano’s expertise in career guidance and counselling, we will help the next 10 lakh to 1 crore high school students explore different career options, discover their passion, and pursue it.”

Toprankers, which counts consumer-focused VC firm Sixth Sense Ventures as its investor, envisions building awareness and increasing the success rate for lucrative career options after 12th. Earlier in 2022, the startup raised $4 million from Sixth Sense Ventures. 

Founded by Aditya Bose, ProBano provides online and offline career guidance to high school students in India through an innovative, technology-backed and affordable 3 step process – Career Counseling, Mentor Sessions and Career Based Courses.

The New Delhi-based career guidance platform helps India’s high school students–aged 13-18–make informed career choices and develop the necessary skills to achieve their career goals. ProBano claims to have counselled over 30,000 students across 24 states.

As part of the acquisition deal, ProBano’s team, along with the chief executive Aditya Bose, will join Toprankers’ team. Aditya will be acting as a product owner – career discovery and experience at Toprankers.

Commenting on the development, Aditya Bose, Founder of ProBano, said,

Despite the struggle to raise funds, few edtech startups have managed to raise funds. In February this year, edtech platform Classplus invested undisclosed capital in Noida-based test preparation app Abhinay Maths. Earlier in January, Surgeup Technologies Pvt Ltd, which operates the gaming-focused edtech platform upsurge, raised $370,000 (around Rs 3 crore) in pre-seed funding.
