SportsTech Giant Dream Sports Acquires Pune-based Rolocule Games

Leading sports technology company Dream Sports has acquired Rolocule Games, a Pune-based mobile games developer. 

Post-acquisition, the Pune-based mobile games developer will be rebranded as Dream Game Studios. Additionally, Rohit Gupta (Founder of Rolocule) will continue to lead Dream Game Studios, focusing on premium interactive gaming experiences on mobile.

Dream Sports is a leading sports technology company with brands such as Dream11, Dream Capital, FanCode (a premier digital sports platform that personalizes content and commerce for all sports fans), DreamX (a sports accelerator), DreamSetGo (a sports experiences platform, and DreamPay (a payment solutions provider).

Recently, Dream Sports has also announced the launch of a mega-fund, with a corpus of $250 million, for its corporate venture capital and acquisitions arm, Dream Capital. Through this fund, Dream Sports will invest in gaming, sports, and fitness-tech startups.

Speaking about the development, Rohit Gupta, Founder of Rolocule, said,

“This is a well-deserved validation for mid-core games in India, and our team has worked incredibly hard to reach this point. Our goal is to bring world-class long-lasting game franchises and IPs from India. We are thrilled to take this step together with Dream Sports.”

Gaming Industry

Indian online gaming segment is expected to more than double at Rs 29,000 crore by FY25, as per a report by KPMG. Many industry experts envisage the online gaming segment to be among India’s largest segments of the media and entertainment industry in the coming years. 

Indian Startups in the gaming segment are also doing their best to accelerate the gaming ecosystem. Last year, New Delhi-headquartered e-gaming startup WinZO launched Game Developer Fund II worth $5 million (Rs 37.5 crore) to accelerate the gaming ecosystem in India.

Recently, WinZO also raised $65 million in a Series C funding round led by a California-based venture capital firm investing in the gaming ecosystemGriffin Gaming Partners.
