De Space Interiors | Founding Team 

Founded by Dev Vig and Akshata Menon Vig in 2012, De Space Interiors offers turnkey interior design solutions to resident owners. The startup focuses on space planning, something which is a challenge for the majority of homeowners and treats every home as unique by offering custom designs. 

“At De Space, we believe each space is unique and needs to be treated differently. Hence, each project of ours is executed keeping in mind the customer’s requirements, their personality/lifestyle and the available space. We strongly believe in “form follows function” and work towards optimizing the maximum out of the space available. De Space constantly strives to create innovative, out-of-the-box solutions for one’s space and storage needs,” says Dev Vig in an exclusive conversation with The StartupLab.

Earlier this month, De Space Interiors received the “Most Creative & Leading Interior design firm of the year 2022 in Karnataka” in the Premium Residential Projects Category, at “The Great Indian Entrepreneurship, Design, Business & Start-up Awards 2022” organized by Begin Up Research Intelligence Private Ltd.

Inception Of De Space Interiors 

The journey began when the founders (Dev and Akshata) bought their own home in 2009. Akshata, being an architect, worked on its interiors. People who visited their house talked highly about it and inquired if they would take up their home interiors too. It was then that they decided to start their interior designing firm.

In the initial days of the business, they understood that the market is highly unorganized, with local contractors ruling it, and consumers who are unaware of the details often end up spending money on what they were not even aware of.

“We talked to a lot of homeowners and figured out that they faced issues such as non-transparency, delays, and unskilled labour and had wanted to hire someone who would give them a turnkey solution without them being involved in the operational aspects. This showed a clear gap in the market in terms of professionalism, and the founders decided to do their bit in filling up this gap,” recalls Dev.

Customized Designs

The startup offers customized designs that are backed by a skilled team. As per Dev, the designs are prepared after a thorough understanding of the space available, as well as understanding the client’s requirements at length. Apart from this, their team puts a strong focus on client experience. 

“We have invested a lot in building a strong team at the backend, comprising of skilled labourers, contractors, carpenters, and supervisors, that has helped us deliver quality service to our clients,” adds Dev.

Present Growth And Plans

The startup focuses a lot on Client Experience and ensures they have a smooth experience while getting their interiors executed. Currently bootstrapped, De Space is growing organically and has successfully executed more than 600 projects to date.

Concluding the conversation, Dev says,

“We would like to be known as an initiative that focuses heavily on client satisfaction, space planning and high-quality execution. This has been our vision since day zero, and all our expansion plans revolve around these three parameters. We currently cater to the Bangalore market and are working to enter other cities soon.”
