Social Commerce Startup Gobillion Raises $2.9 Million In Funding

Gobillion, a social commerce startup, has raised $2.9 million in a seed funding round led by YCombinator, Justin Mateen (Tinder founder), Pioneer Fund and others.

The funding round also saw participation from other marquee global investors, including Soma Capital, Chris Golda Investments, Goodwater Capital, Olive Tree Capital, Oliver Jung, Venture Souq, Shanti Mohan (founder – LetsVenture) and Vikas Choudhury (President, Reliance Jio).

As per the startup, the freshly raised funds will be used to ramp up its business expansion plans, launch more categories, and strengthen its operations, product development, and technology teams.

Gobillion | Making E-commerce Social

Founded in 2020 by Roshan Farhan and Kulapradip Bharali, Gobillion is making e-commerce social for the next 400M customers in Tier 2+ cities in India. The startup enables customers to buy together in social groups and unlock deals.

Gobillion aspires to emulate the real-world shopping experience to an online one – making it fun, engaging and building trust in the customers.

Speaking on the development, Roshan Farhan, Co-founder and CEO, Gobillion, said,

“The next frontier of growth and opportunity is enabling commerce for customers in small towns in India – we are well-positioned to unlock rapid growth and delight customers with our offerings. We will be leveraging the capital to put our long-term plans into action and create a strong foundation for our business.”

As per the startup, it aims to build extensive social and gamified e-commerce experiences that can best cater to the needs and aspirations of customers in small towns in India and South-East Asia. 

The social commerce startup will launch its services across 12 cities in the next 18 months while scaling across 100 more cities in the coming four to five years. Gobillion is targeting the next 400 million customers living in tier-II cities in India.
