Lockdown Impact: Video Sharing Platform ‘ShareChat’ Sees Increase In Daily Average Users

Amid the COVID-19 pandemic, ShareChat, an Indian regional language social media platform has seen an increase of 15% in daily average users.

This video-sharing platform has also seen a rise in the content created in health, news, and devotion categories.

This Bengaluru-based startup was founded by Farid Ahsan, Ankush Sachdeva, and Bhanu Singh.

Talking about the increased engagement and created content, Sunil Kamath (CBO of ShareChat) said,

“We have seen a phenomenal growth in both content creation and engagement during lockdown. New gainers for us are categories like news, health, and devotion.”

And for that, ShareChat has multiple third-party fact-checkers reviewing content across 13 languages. Sunil Kamath also mentioned that ShareChat is focused on fighting fake news on its platform.

The company also announced, on Saturday, that it is setting aside Rs 50 million in ad-credits on its platform for promoting the adoption of the government’s coronavirus patient tracking app, Aarogya Setu.
