Zomato’s CEO, Deepinder Goyal, provides reasons for why Zomato acquired Uber Eats
After acquiring Uber Eats, Zomato has become the largest company in the food delivery business.
Zomato’s CEO and Co-founder, Deepinder Goyal in a recent interview, gave reasons on why Zomato acquired Uber Eats.
In an interview with ET, Deepinder Goyal said, “I’d give away 10% only if I’m gaining more than 10%. We often make the mistake of looking at the business at an India-level, that’s not how it works. It’s on a city-to-city level. In multiple cities in the south, Uber was the number one or number two player”.
With this acquisition, Zomato is expecting to add 25% more users.
Last year, Zomato’s biggest rival, Swiggy was also in discussions to buy Uber Eats. But that deal didn’t come to fruition because of legal issues.
Deepinder Goyal in the interview also added that Zomato’s average order value is higher than its competition’s.
