B2B Food Marketplace Jumbotail Raises $85M In Series C Funding
Jumbotail, a Bengaluru-based retail platform and food & grocery B2B marketplace, has raised $85M in a Series C funding round led by Artal Asia Pte. Ltd., an affiliate of global equity investment firm Invus.
The funding round, which saw a combination of primary and secondary investments, also saw participation from Ajax Capital, the family office of FMCG entrepreneur Ajay Gupta.
Jumbotail plans to use the raised funds to triple its engineering, product, design, data science, category management, marketing, and finance teams from 400 members presently. Additionally, the startup plans to scale its core B2B marketplace to 100 cities and towns across India, which is present in 28 cities at the moment.

Founded by Stanford MBA classmates S Karthik Venkateswaran and Ashish Jhina in 2015, Jumbotail helps largely unorganised neighbourhood Kirana stores network.
With its full-stack eCommerce model, consisting of 4 in-house, proprietary platforms – B2B online marketplace, Supply Chain & Logistics, Fintech for SME Lending, and Retail platform, Jumbotail claims to connect nearly 2000 FMCG & staples brands and sellers to Kirana stores, cities and towns in India.
As per Ashish Jhina, Co-founder & COO of Jumbotail, the startup nearly quadrupled its scale in 2021, and the team is looking to further accelerate its growth trajectory in the coming year.
Speaking on the development, Ashish Jhina said,
“We will continue to invest aggressively to make Jumbotail the pre-eminent destination for food and grocery brands to reach the overwhelming majority of India’s consumers through our pan-India network of kirana partners.”
This round brings the total capital raised by Jumbotail to $125 million. In October 2020, the startup had raised an $11 million Series B2 funding round led by Heron Rock. Afterwards, the startup, in January 2021, raised $14.2 million in a Series B3 round of funding.
The Bengaluru-based startup aims to expand its network of J24 stores, invest in large scale Kirana entrepreneur skill development initiatives. Additionally, Jumbotail aims to further strengthen its Go-To-Market services to support regional and new age FMCG brands.
