Startup Story: Safe Storage | On-Demand Storage Space Provider

Safe Storage

Safe Storage Founder

Safe Storage is a Bengaluru-based on-demand storage space provider started by former IBM colleagues Ramesh Babu Madisetty, Nageswar Midam and Venu Madhav Maidam in 2015.

Managed by professionals, Safe Storage offers a wide range of storage solutions ranging from household storage to records storage management.

How Safe Storage Started?

The idea of Safe Storage incepted in the mind of the founders when they realised that many people are facing the issue of storing and safeguarding their household items when they are away from home.

Talking about the issues, Ramesh says,

“Several people face the issue of storing and safeguarding their household items when they are away from home. In case people on rent need to be away for a long time, they need to keep on paying the rent in order to keep their belongings safe. If they want to save on rent, they have to shift the goods to their hometown or sell it off at a cheaper price.”

And to solve the issues, Ramesh along with Nageswar and Venu, started Safe Storage in 2015.

Customers are charged based on the volume of items being stored.

Storage of 1BHK worth household goods can cost Rs 2,999 per month while for 2BHK goods, the startup charges Rs 3,999.

For B2B clients, the startup charges as ‘pay per pallet’ at a starting price of Rs 800. And for tape vaulting service, the startup charges Rs 20 per tape (visit Safe Storage website for details).

USP Of Safe Storage

Offering economical and easily accessible storage space for household and business customers, Safe Storage offers packing, pickup, and delivery of the goods.

Safe Storage prioritises safety, and that is why its warehouses are equipped with facilities such as smoke detectors, 24X7 dedicated security, barcode assisted inventory management system, biometric security system, CCTV monitoring, and pest-safe premises.

The on-demand storage provider also provides insurance against fire, theft, and natural calamities for no extra charges.

Present Situation Of Safe Storage

First started in a 1 BHK house in Bengaluru, Safe Storage has now grown to have over 5 lakh sq. ft storage space, which the startup claims to be the largest than any other competitor in India.

With an in-house tech team comprising 12 members, the startup has over 30 warehouses in Bengaluru, Chennai, Hyderabad, and Pune.

As per Ramesh, Safe Storage recorded Rs 15.88 crore turnover in FY2020-21.

The startup claims to have over 10,000 B2C and B2B clients, including companies like-HCL, Infinite, Siemens, NTT Data, and Therapiva.

Future Plans Of Safe Storage

Safe Storage has aggressive expansion plans and is looking to expand to 10 cities over the next few years.

Also, as some of the warehouses of the startup are surrounded by many IT companies, the startup is looking to convert its extra storage space into a co-working space.
