Studio Sirah, a Bengaluru-based gaming studio that makes mid-core India-first games, has raised $2.6 million in its pre-series A round. The funding round was led by VC firm Kalaari Capital and seed investor Lumikai.

As per the startup, the raised funds will be used to utilise the funds to globally launch its flagship gaming title, Kurukshetra: Ascension, by June 2023. Additionally, the Bengaluru-based gaming studio will use the funds to build out its second title, which will go even further in terms of ambition and scope.

Founded by Abhaas Shah and Prateek Shah, Studio Sirah is a Bengaluru-based gaming studio that builds mid-core games for mobile and PC, focusing on the Indian market.

Studio Sirah aims to build a new white space in the gaming industry with its rich Indian-themed IPs that are gaining huge popularity across the globe.

Kurukshetra: Ascension, Studio Sirah’s flagship game, is a free-to-play card battler themed on India’s two great epics – the Mahabharata and the Ramayana.

Players get to play the roles of ancient legends such as Arjuna and Sugriva, collect divine Astras and mythical creatures (from Apsaras to Daityas), and battle it out to the top in thrilling online duels. Kurukshetra-Ascension, which is available in early access on Play Store and Steam, has over 120K organic downloads in beta.

Before this round, in September 2021, Studio Sirah had raised $830,000 in its seed funding round led by Lumikai and a pool of renowned angels such as Akshat Rathee (founder, Nodwin Games), Roshni Rathi (partner, BCG), Alexis Bonte (chief operating officer, Stillfront Games), Piyush Shah (cofounder, Inmobi), and Sameer Pitalwalla (Head Of Gaming, Google Cloud).

According to a report by Lumikai, a gaming-focused venture firm, the gaming industry in India is projected to reach $8.6 billion in FY27.
