To provide a structure to the unorganized blockchain ecosystem and to support blockchain technology and related startups in India, Software Technology Parks of India (STPI) has launched Apiary, a Centre of Excellence (CoE) in blockchain technology in Gurugram.

Software Technology Parks of India (STPI) is an organization under the Ministry of Electronics and IT.

Apiary aims to help Indian blockchain startups by providing them mentorship, intellectual property services, funds, office space, and cutting-edge research facilities.

Talking about how Apiary helps Blockchain startups, Pankaj Thakur, Chief Mentor of Apiary CoE and Founder of Padup, said,

“A blockchain ecosystem has been around in India for the last three-four years, but there is no structure to it. This is what the CoE does. It brings in an entrepreneur, helps them through education and workshops, and even helps them with funding — all these, for a first-time entrepreneur, are very difficult to do.”

Blockchain Ecosystem in India is very young, and NITI Aayog, earlier this year, published a research paper regarding various ways in which blockchain technology can benefit India.

NITI Aayog’s CEO Amitabh Kant, also talked about how blockchain offers unique possibilities of addressing issues relating to improving governance.

Amitabh Kant said,

“Governance in India faces unique challenges given the scale, diversity, and complexity of processes involved for delivery of varied public services. Blockchain offers unique possibilities of addressing issues relating to improving governance.”
