Indian Startup Stories

With the advent of online shopping, last-mile delivery has emerged as a big business opportunity in India.

A KPMG report revealed that there will be 6.1 million delivery executives in India by 2025 making last-mile deliveries.

But as the majority of last-mile deliveries are completed using internal combustion engine vehicles, the opportunity presents a big issue.

Providing a solution to this problem, today’s story is of a Gurugram-headquartered startup, Zypp Electric, that is making last-mile delivery more affordable and time-saving, with zero-emission.

Zypp Electric Founder

Founded by husband-wife duo Akash Gupta and Rashi Agarwal in 2017, Zypp Electric is a B2B Delivery and shared mobility platform that is on a mission to make all last-mile deliveries electric.

Zypp Electric is working towards converting all deliveries for e-commerce, grocery, medicine and food verticals to go electric with its e-scooter sharing app.

Akash Agarwal, an alumnus of the Institute of Management Technology in Ghaziabad, has worked for companies like Airtel, Snapdeal, and Mobikwik, while Rashi Agarwal, a graduate from IIPM, has worked for the likes of ICICI Bank and S&PCapitalQ.

How Zypp Electric Started?

Zypp Electric had begun as an electric rental mobility company for commuters. But with time, the founders observed that 50% of the commute in India is less than 5 km.

In 2019, Akash and Rashi saw that last-mile delivery was rapidly growing at 30% YoY, especially in eCommerce and e-grocery segments. The duo then decided to tap into this last-mile delivery market and help it transition into an EV-led delivery ecosystem.

Providing details about Zypp Electric, Akash says,

“We serve businesses of all sizes, right from large eCommerce companies to e-grocery to Kirana stores and restaurants. We handle their end-to-end last-mile deliveries – from stores to customers’ homes with various differentiated tech-enabled custom solutions, such as using e-vehicle, fixing the timings of services, IoT-enabled battery swapping infrastructure, ensuring good riders, and giving an exclusive experience to their end customers.”
