The funding round comes as a surprise because Grover had posted that he will bootstrap his new venture Third Unicorn as opposed to his previous venture BharatPe, one of the hyper-funded startups in India. Additionally, the launch of CrickPe, which is a fantasy sports platform for cricket fans, comes ahead of the Indian Premier League (IPL), which will start on March 31.

As per a source, the CrickPe app is in closed beta mode and will soon open to the public. The app, which is yet to launch apps for iOS and Android devices, will directly compete with MPL, Dream11, and other fantasy sports platforms.
